The loss of our parents can be profoundly painful, especially given the significant role they have in our lives. Parents typically provide us with information about the world, lend moral support, and shape our perceptions about ourselves. The Bible often makes the case that God has perfectly designed the parent-child relationship to be a reflection of the relationship the Father has with us. Sadly, losing a parent is also something that almost everyone experiences. Some parents live long lives to old age, while others may die unexpectedly, or too early in life, leaving behind children and other loved ones. Even if there were many children in the family, the relationship with each child was unique. Whatever your circumstances, it is virtually impossible to prepare ourselves emotionally for the loss. And regardless of our relationship with our parents, we will always be their children.
There is heartache. But there is also hope.
