Citizens and clergy from all across Iowa joined Governor Reynolds, pro-life legislators, Lutheran Family Service and the other Coalition of Pro-Life Leaders for the Iowa Prayer Rally for Life on Monday, March 2, 2020 in support of LIFE and the Protect Life Amendment. Together, we are a voice for LIFE!

The only way to stop abortion in Iowa is through the Protect Life Amendment.

The Iowa constitution must be amended to clearly state there is no right to an abortion nor tax payer funding of abortion found within the document. Without the passing of this critical measure, all attempts to restrict abortion in Iowa are doomed to failure.  It is believed the ban on abortion after 20 weeks gestation will succumb through a judicial challenge if an amendment to the constitution is not passed by the legislature and later ratified by the people of Iowa.

As Christians and citizens of Iowa, we must relentlessly work to further the cause of life! So, what can you do to take action and be a voice for LIFE?

  1. Vote for life-affirming legislators to be our elected officials.
  2. Contact those who represent you, and let them know your views on abortion and to vote “yes” for the Protect Life Amendment.
  3. Vote “yes” for the Life Amendment should it come to a vote of the people (not before 2021)
  4. Have Lutheran Family Service come and help educate your congregation on these issues.
  5. Pray for life-affirming action in our legislature
  6. Support the Life Advocacy work of Lutheran Family Service so that we may continue to equip others and stand up to defend the value of life through countless hours and efforts at the Iowa State Capitol.

Following the Prayer Rally, over 50 attendees learned the basics of lobbying to encourage, pray for and work to influence their legislators to support the Protect Life Amendment. Lutheran Family Service Life Ministries Director, Kim Laube, and Iowa Catholic Conference Lobbyist, Tom Chapman, gave an excellent overview of how to call out, meet with, or leave a letter for their legislators thanking them for their service, sharing their personal stories and views, and asking them to vote yes for the Protect Life Amendment.

We at Lutheran Family Service, together with you, the Church, and pro-life citizens of Iowa must continue to fight for and defend the value of all life from fertilization to natural death. Because that baby in her mother’s womb, she’s a baby!

In Christ,

Rev. Max Phillips
