Today, we’re honored to share Della’s adoption story, written by her adoptive parents, Josh and Jessica. As you’ll read, the adoption finalization day was not only emotional and beautiful—it was a reflection of how God had been quietly preparing their hearts for years.
Today we finalized Della’s adoption at the courthouse, and what a beautiful, emotional day it has been.
I remember being in second grade at our school when we were all asked to choose our favorite Bible verse. The school compiled a little book of everyone’s verses, and I vividly remember flipping through the Bible and discovering Psalm 139. That chapter immediately spoke to me, and I chose a few verses from it. Over the years, it has continued to shape the way I see the world, myself, and the people God brings into our lives.
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.”
— Psalm 139:1–6
These verses have been such a comfort—reminding us that God knows us completely, that nothing in our lives surprises Him, and that His hand has always been on us. Now, as we celebrate Della’s adoption, these words take on even deeper meaning—not only for her life, but for ours as a family, as well as Della’s birth mom.
“For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
— Psalm 139:13–16
To finalize her adoption today is to witness God’s faithfulness in action. It’s not just a legal milestone—it’s a reflection of the seeds He planted long ago, and how He gently brought them to life in His perfect timing.
And to our village—our incredible family and friends who have prayed, supported, encouraged, and walked alongside us through every part of this journey—we are so deeply thankful. Your love has carried us through.
We are especially thankful for Lutheran Family Service and the amazing caseworkers who supported us throughout this adoption journey. Their compassionate care for both our family and Della’s birth parents was such a gift. We’re so grateful for the way they walked with us every step of the way, offering wisdom, encouragement, and grace. Thank you for doing Kingdom work!
