Help us welcome Angela Kollbaum to the Lutheran Family Service ministry team!

Angela Kollbaum, Provisional License Mental Health Practitioner (PLMHP), has joined the Lutheran Family Service Christian counseling team as a master’s-level prepared mental health and marriage counselor. She serves clients in person in the Norfolk and North-East Nebraska area. Angela can also serve clients located anywhere in the state of Nebraska through telehealth/virtual counseling via smartphone, tablet or computer.

Angela brings over 25 years of experience working with youth, individuals, and families in a variety of settings as a social worker, Director of Christian Education (DCE), youth leader, and family-life coordinator.

As a mental health professional, she works with individual, couple, and families. Angela specializes in helping people with anxiety, depression, behavior and mood disorders, self-harm, trauma, personality disorders, life transitions, and marital/couples’ conflict and relationship issues. Angela is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and enjoys researching and utilizing new techniques and approaches. Just as each client is unique, Angela works to personalize treatment for each individual and situation to achieve the best outcomes for her clients.

When asked about her decision to become a counselor, Angela shared,

“I have always had a passion for working with people and empowering them to be their best selves. I started as a social worker, and then when my husband became a pastor, I found myself in the volunteer role as a youth leader. I realized that everyone struggles with mental health issues, and in rural areas, it can be a challenge to access quality Christian counseling services. I really wanted to provide confidential, Christian counseling services in rural and remote areas.”

Angela has found that believers in Christ – especially Pastors and other church workers – are often hesitant to begin counseling. So, she is passionate about helping reduce stigma and barriers so that they – and others – can receive the assistance they need without fear or hesitation.

Angela chose to join the Lutheran Family Service ministry team because she will be able to thread her faith and God’s Word in everything she does.

“Faith is a huge part of therapy for me. In the secular world, I was only able to show Jesus’ love in my actions. Now, I can pray with clients and add the Word and God’s design for our lives. Living in our sin-fallen world is tough, and the enemy looks for every opportunity to tear us down. Because of Jesus, we have hope and know the enemy has already been defeated! “

In all counseling sessions, Angela lives by 1 John 4:19, “We love because He first loved us.” Every individual is a loved child of God regardless of their life circumstances. Angela strives to show the Lord’s grace, love, and mercy to everyone as they work together to process issues, find solutions, and begin the process of healing.
