Up to 85 percent of unborn babies with a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome are tragically lost to abortion. Receiving a prenatal diagnosis of Down Syndrome can be overwhelming for parents. Not every family feels equipped to raise a child with special needs. However, Lutheran Family Service’s Down Syndrome Adoption Program offers a life-affirming path forward. This program connects these precious children with families ready to provide the love, support, and special care they need.

The Poss family is a testament to the life-saving and life-changing mission of this program. Landon and Teresa Poss, with their deep belief in the sanctity of life, answered the call to adopt Maria-Jacinta, a joyful little girl with Down Syndrome, in 2023. With the support of Lutheran Family Service, which waives all agency fees for this program, the Poss family welcomed Maria-Jacinta into their hearts and home and soon after, into the Christian faith through baptism.

Maria-Jacinta is thriving alongside her big sister, Tessi, in a faith-filled home where her unique abilities are celebrated. Her story is a reminder that every child, no matter their diagnosis, is precious and valuable.

Join us at the 2025 Iowa Prayer Rally for Life to meet Landon and Teresa and hear their remarkable story as we stand for the most vulnerable among us, celebrate adoption, and raise awareness of life-affirming options. Together, we can make a difference.
